I have been a huge admirer of the BALMAIN fashion house for a long time. Founded by Pierre Alexandre Claudius Balmain in 1945, he was considered “a king of French fashion” and outfitted stars including Ava Gardner and Brigitte Bardot.
The house has since transformed and has become notorious for its skinny jeans, painted on leather pants and beautifully structured jackets with exaggerated shoulders. Its got such a sexy rocker style so distinct and as recognizable as the Chanel logo.
In April 2011 the house took a huge risk and announced then 25 year old Olivier Rousteing as Creative Director of the house. Yes, he’s 26 and looks more like a model than a designer but the risk paid off. He has refocused the brand’s artisan roots while maintaining its particular blend of decadent rock-chic glamour.
